Donald L. Birdd Honored for Accomplishments in Science Education
Donald L. Birdd earned Doctor of Education degree from the University of Northern Colorado


WEST FALLS, NY, July 27, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ --Donald L. Birdd, Professor Emeritus at Buffalo State College, has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for demonstrating dedication, leadership and excellence in science education at all grade levels.

At Buffalo State College, Dr. Birdd was responsible for instructing students in science teaching methods, consulting with and placing secondary science student teachers in area schools. He also served as Chair of the Earth Sciences & Science Education Department. Known for his unique and creative teaching strategies, his interests also resulted in development of an historic science education curriculum library, dedicated in his name by Buffalo State upon his retirement. As professor emeritus after 43 years of field experience, Dr. Birdd still presents informal science instructional programs in costume as "Dr. 'B' - Suited for Science".

In 1981, Mr. Birdd earned a Doctor of Education in Science Education/Earth Sciences from the University of Northern Colorado. Certified to teach all science courses, he has also earned Master of Science in Teaching (Biology) and Master of Education - Professional Development (Earth Sciences) degrees from the University of Wisconsin (Whitewater). Mr. Birdd earned the Bachelor of Science degree in Secondary Education (Comprehensive Science) from the University of Wisconsin (Platteville). Affiliated with the National Science Teachers Association, he received the "Search for Excellence in Science Education - Inquiry" award (1984). State University of New York awarded Dr. Birdd the "Chancellor's Award for Excellence in Teaching" (1994). He also maintained a decade long relationship with the Buffalo Museum of Science with his Science on Stage program.

Additionally, Mr. Birdd serves as the cycling coach/trainer for Roswell Park Cancer Institute's Team Cure Challenge - Lake Tahoe program. He also sits on the board of directors for the American Diabetes Association's Buffalo Tour de Cure. Future plans include researching/writing the history of science education at Buffalo State College, writing a constructivist-oriented teaching manual in science for educators, maintaining his Dr. "B " - Suited for Science program, and consulting in science education.
